I find myself incredibly unhappy with the lexus suddenly and was looking at CTS-Vs and other such manual shenanigans. Quoted an ‘05 CTSV on my insurance and it came to $280/mo just for that car. Thinking “hm” I quoted something a bit more reasonable and put in a CPO 2016 Ford Focus base model hatch. $340/mo. Guess I’m just fucking condemned to 90s shitboxes. The issue there is that old manuals like that have clutches too heavy for me to fucking daily and I can’t stand automatics from that era (part of why I’m pissed with my Lexus). Fucking unhappy right now.
clarification edit: insurance expensive because wife totaled two cars. No I can’t just drop her off my insurance for some reason Kansas doesn’t work like that and it’s based on “households”
unhappy with the lexus because it takes five calendar years to shift from 1-2 and the TCC locking and unlocking constantly on the highway noticeably raises my fucking blood pressure. Also the paint’s all dicked up and it needs wheel bearings and my last tank was 17 fucking miles per gallon

Comes down to stats I think. CTS-V being less common, so they have lower accident rates.
Same thing with my Solstice, it costs me $200 less a year to insure my Solstice vs my F30.

90s mazdas have light clutches.

my NB was too heavy for my knee. NA is borderline. Don’t want a fucking convertible.

Wut...? Why is insurance so much!? My most expensive car to insure was the S3 at a $700 every 6 months.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 12:42 |

Yeah. Still fucking $28 0/mo. Would be a $240/mo payment as well. lol.

Who the heck is your insurance provider? Even with two at-fault accidents, I kind of think you’re getting reamed.

M anual swapping the IS will result in a heavy clutch pedal if my experience with Collins adapters means anything.
What about hot hatches from 2008-2014?

Mazda 2s are really really light. Almost too light. One of my buddys that races year round in Arizona swears by them, his instructor school had them. They were faster around the track than stock miatas.

at fault accidents are a B***t.

I loathe my insurance and my insurance payment. But when ever an oPPo posts their rates I feel bad at what a ‘deal’ I’m getting. That’s sooo much money$$$$

$280/mo just for that car.
Damn it, that’s shitty. That’s 80 more than I pay for both my E9Xs.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 12:47 |

You remember your rate on the E90 you had? I’m curious to see how ours compare.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 12:57 |

It was just slightly less than the S3. I want to say $640-$650 every six months.

That’s pretty good, that’s what mine was when I originally got it. It went up when I put it into a wall, but now it’s back to around that level.

You smacked up your M3? I don’t remember hearing about that.

It was back in October 2015 when I was on hiatus from oppo. That was probably the worst month of my life.

yeah i pay 95 a month for 1 car with full coverage and 1 with comprehensive and no collision

two at-fault total losses last month. It’s gonna be a shitty few years.

I drove an 08 rabbit gti and the clutch was super light and great shifter. Anybody with a newer GTI confirm they are similar?
It wouldn’t hurt to get some insurance quotes from a few other companies. You may be surprised!
![]() 12/10/2018 at 13:14 |

Damn, nice. I pay $125-130 for 2 with full coverage. I should probably move to a similar set up like you.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 13:15 |

That’s actually not a terrible rate for 2 at fault. Damn son.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 13:17 |

Well it sounds like you need to consider saving up for a $1300 Camry Coupe, buying it outright and letting time heal your record. I don’t think a revolving door of financing old luxury cars is the best idea right now, no? You’re 23... you have plenty of time to buy something nice later. I didn’t own a decent car until I was 30.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 13:19 |

yeah except that cars are basically my identity and one of the few things that help with my constant anxiety and when I’m unhappy with my cars I end up in a shitty negative feedback loop of depression and panic attacks yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
i mean I own the lexus outright for less than $800 out of pocket. No reason not to keep it other than I fucking hate it now for reasons that don’t really matter

A local insurance provider once told me a used Prius would cost as much (about $280/mo) as a Focus RS to insure per month. Thanks, rideshare drivers!

trade your is300 for this https://tulsa.craigslist.org/cto/d/1988-bmw-535i/6751807897.html I image the auto is gonna be even worse than the lexus but it is cool. Insurance should be cheaper since there aren’t airbags. Just make sure the front control arms have been done if you check it out.
There’s actually a e28 528e auto for sale near me for 1500 w/150k miles but Michigans a long ways from kansas.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 13:50 |

WTF Costs me like 180 for the e28 and e30. Michigan does have some of the highest insurance rates though.

That’s very surprising, given how old your cars are.

Everything on the Mk7 is super light. It’s why I got a DSG.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 14:50 |

It’s $266 for the GTI and 4Runner, the 4Runner even having roadside assistance.

Surprised yours is more than mine.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 15:35 |

Yeah apparently I have a fabulous rate. I do per-mile so it fluctuates a little but I’m usually right around $100/mo for both my cars with everything maxed out, pretty much. $500 deductible, though. Drove lots last month so it was $150. Counting my blessings right about now.

Younger drivers on average, probably.
![]() 12/10/2018 at 18:07 |

How old are you now? I was 24 when I got my M3 and it wasn’t much more than my Explorer to insure.

Stop buying cars, let alone high-maintenance, projects and/or performance cars, it’s not helping your financial causes . Either fix what you own to make it reliable or get something boring but near-unkillable like a Camry or GM at the cost of selling the Lexus or the Mazda . Buying and modifying cars to starve off your depression isn’t the answer, it’s a band-aid . You need to figure out how to reduce other causes of said depression. Does your wife have a job? If so, then she needs to chip in more to offset the increased insurance payments she’s partially-responsible for (yeah, biker caused the Miata wreck but she still needs to help you out if she isn’t doing so already).
Don’t buy the Caddy because your wife will likely have an accident in it somehow. You’re two for two, buying a gen-1 CTS-V is going to strike you out .
Also, don’t live through cars, live around cars. There’s more to cars than buying projects or turning cars into projects.

I’ve been pulled over 3 times, twice for speeding, once because I was(no joke) profiled by the police(I’m white as fuck, but not white enough for rural PA). The first time was 71 in a 45 in the 4Runner, right after I got it. I honestly didn’t know it would do that and wasn’t trying. Officer saw that I really wasn’t intending to speed, and I was in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, so he let me go. Second time, I looked “SUSPICIOUS” in the 4Runner. Third time I was doing 63 in a 60, the officer was doing about 115 in the rain from the opposite direction. Popped me doing “71", I told him that I was doing 63. He didn’t argue, and let me go.

A regular Prius was punishing enough.
